Poems by Rosalie Kissner

Even though it was another time and another
place, whether Viet Nam or the Gulf war,
shades of memories seem to take hold all
over again and the bitterness had returned.

"Another time, Another Place"

There once was a war that everyone cheered,
where people were true Americans, and really cared.
American Flags hung on every door
Even on the houses of the very poor.

Yellow ribbons to remind us of the boys over there,
with all of us home who supported and cared.
Mothers weeping for their sons they miss,
children yearning for their fathers and mothers to kiss.

Women made history for their missions they flew,
when they dropped bombs from their planes, right on que.
They'll all be heroes when they return,
To tell stories to their children so they can learn.

But something feels strange, like a sting or a pain,
That burns inside other men and women who try to remain sane.
It's a memory of war, for that I am sure,
It’s a sting, an ache and pain, and still, no cure.

All is forgotten of one's loved still missing,
But not for the parents at home who are still wishing.
They pray that our government would take a stand,
To make one very heroic final demand.
